CLASSROOM – GLOBAL OVERVIEW
In the past Search engines were the best way to get free advertising to make money.
Now they are all trying to figure out how to make a buck! The search engine game is
changing constantly. Here are the top tips to getting your website listed on search
engines. Remember that Google is king. (Period) Over 80% of web searches by web
users are initiated using Google. So for the next Internet year (90 days) I am going to
focus on what it likes because the rest generally follow!
Here are the Major factors to get a website high in the searchengines. If you focus on
them you will stay in the Global Search Engine Ballpark
1. Word Relevancy and Density – Do the words (on your site pages) your site show
(represent) the subject you want in Search Engines?
2. Content – Does your website attract people to come back and visit?
3. Traffic – How many people come and visit your website?
4. Links – Do you have links back and forth (link exchange) with sites that feature your
word relevancy?
5. Submission – How put your website in the Search engine's faces!

CLASSROOM 1 Word Relevancy & Density
Word Relevancy –Are your key words relevant to the subject you want to promote to
the top of the searchengines? A "key word" is what you want to promote. Make sure
whatever primary word you select for your web page(s) it is located in the FIRST
position. This puts your most important keywords as close to the <BODY> tag as possible. You may
not want to promote the word "nutritionals" because there are 230,000 listed in
Google. Do some strategic thinking first and look on Google! For instance there are very few
searches on Network Marketing! Why? MLM is easier to type! Here is a source(s) to
help you search.
See: http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/
Another important factor to consider is the use of misspelled words: Misspelled words
could boost your traffic because many people are likely to misspell your keywords in a
search. In a search for a site submission service, people could search for free submission, fre sumit, subit, saerch engines, submition, add ULR, saerchengines, etc.
and end up at this page because these words are present in this page and among the
META keywords.
Secondary Searches – Go to Google and put in "free keyword search" (make sure that
you use the " marks to narrow down the search. Be aware of web position placement
firms that tell you will end up on top. Even the good ones bit the bullet with the Google
"Florida" algorithm changes in November 2003 and don't know where they are today.
Fully 50% just like MLM software are frauds. HOWEVER! Some may have good tools to use for FREE. Money wasted!
The Title is the most important place to put your keywords, but be careful and limit the
Title to fewer than 15 words including your top keywords. It's important that your Title is
as descriptive as possible and that it focus on what your page is all about, for two
obvious reasons.
1. This is the title that will come up in a search, and you would want to attract people, not scare them away with a lot of keywords that makes no sense. Also, if a surfer clicks on your link and the Title differs from your content he's likely to leave the site. Do NOT use caps… not considered good neti-quette.
2. Your Title should reflect the content of your page for better ranking in the
search engines. It makes your site "relevant" to your Title.
3. Description is also heavy with some searchengines so get your key words in it
several times (without looking stupid). The Description can run out to 30 words. Use
them!
Word Density -- The words on your site need to match the intent of what you want to
get on the searchengines. This is called word relevancy. Use your top keywords in the
first paragraph. The "main" readable text is important with Google (as opposed to the
meta-keywords). If you look at www.mlmconsultant.com
you will find that the words MLM Consultant are sprinkled around in the paragraphs. All of the sentences make
sense. If I put MLM Consultant, MLM Consultant, MLM consultant in the text I would be
spamming = page 20 on Google. You have to use common sense and sentence
structure - make the sentence readable!
Word Relevancy/Word Density – Combined, these primary words need to continue
through your whole website to maintain the theme. The more pages the better. That
means that you are real about the website. Some search engine placement folks will
hustle your money by just doing the front page of your website.

I put this as number two on my priority list because people have to like your site and
come back for you to be noticed by searchengines. Most successful websites are the
ones that build up repeat visitors. In these cases, getting folks that bookmark your page
is a good way of ensuring the kind of repetition we want. Some folks add every other
web page they like to their "favorites," but after a couple of years on the web they only
bookmark sites with a "revisit" value.
About the best way to get a site bookmarked is to have interesting information that gets
updated regularly; content rich. When we update our information on a weekly or monthly
basis, folks will come back to see what is new. For instance on the MLM Consultant
site, as a public service, I try to add articles to the library 2x a month to help the MLM
Industry. I'll often visit a site once a week like clockwork if I get useful information each
time I visit. Note the key is to make the information useful and regular.
With the "Florida" storm by Google many search engine specialists had their clients
beating at their door with axes in hand. Why? Most were commercial websites and the
only content they had was for selling purposes. Google and others are now looking at
content of the whole site.
Upon reviewing engine positioning for the MLM Consultant site I stayed on top because
my home page was not where the most of my traffic came from. People came to read
my articles in the Library.
You don't have to be a writer! Ask yourself what information you can add to your
website. In the web world of linking many authors will give you articles (get good ones)
if you make sure there is a link back to their website. I offer my MLM Watchdog
subscribers some good articles as I publish them to help the MLM Industry. There are
articles for sell too. (Period) Good ones. If you want one of my articles go to the Library
on www.mlmconsultant.com and take one (just save it with your browser and give it to
your web master). Copy it. Do not touch it up or change it and we are ok!

Another measure of your website by searchengines is how often it gets visited. There
are several good ways to do this and unfortunately more bad ones. An easy one is
keep and email list of all your friends and send them an email when you put an interesting new article on your site. Cheap fast and effective.
Joining traffic generator schemes is risky! Why? Because searchengines measure how
long a visit is on your website. A lot of hits with no "stickiness" (meaning people clicked
on your site and then instantly closed it) can get you penalized. That is why content in
Classroom 2 is so important. What is there for them to look at and stay for a while? In
addition these are a pure pyramid and there are jus so many people in the world willing
to join them. Also there is software to cheat on the clicks and are on and off your site in
a millisecond. Ouch!
Paid Traffic generators are worse! If you get a real crook with automated software the
searchengines see the pattern and dump you in the ditch. Get somebody else to test
them or find someone you can trust. Remember they have to be in your category too.
Interested in you to stick around.
You are saying right now, "Rod you have given me a chicken or egg first dilemma." The
answer is yes and no. Content first then traffic follows. The safe way is the work it
takes to get there. There is no substitute!
We have some new things like traffic circles among friends and traffic sites you can
trade straight across. I have the software for the traffic generator systems if you and
your friends want to start one. Not a commercial ad here but these are good used in
one MLM downline group or a whole company. Watch TV and linger through friends websites.

CLASSROOM 4 Links From Other Sites
Two years ago (Internet years of 90 days) I would have talked about links in classroom
#1 because your popularity on the web was measured primarily by the number of people that linked to you! Then came that fateful day of "Florida" when Google changed
their algorithms and the whole web world went upside down.
Google (and other engines following now) rank the links. Imagine a popularity party. If
all the popular people are in a high traffic (hits/visits) group there is a reason. They are
chatty, they are sharing information (good or bad), and they have each other's phone
numbers. Engines are very found of "on topic" links. An "on topic" link is a link that
contains your keywords.
This is the way that Google now looks at any subject on the web and the links are link
common phone numbers/topic. If you are in the phone books (links) of the popular
people with them having links to you… you are up in the search engines! It is also
important that your keywords are present in internal links, because some engines count
them as well.
If the links to your site are from a dog food site and you are doing direct sales (not about
dog food) you get a couple of demerits. It may not kill you unless you are linked to a lot
of odd sites that have nothing to do with your site content. That is part of what
happened with "Florida." Searchengine paid placement people had worked on linking
sites to ANY site. Bang they killed their customers with that old strategy!
Do NOT get into a FFA (Free For All) "link farm" where you place links to your website
and they rotate down a page. All searchengines hate them and they will get you demerits! This is so critical that I will repeat it. Don't do FFA's!
To find quality link partners go to Google and put in all four of the listings below. You
will see a big difference in each search!
find url, mlm
add url, mlm
"find url, mlm"
"add url, mlm"
You will see many listings. Look at the website. Is it one that you would want to link
with? Same type of content and does it look like a good legal website? Copy and paste
that into a text pad or word document if it looks good to you. Then go to www.alexa.com
and put in your website first. It will show you your traffic rank. Then go to the URL's that you liked then copy and paste into notepad or word. Put that URL in
the comparison slot on Alexa (below where your traffic ranking is shown) to see if it how
they compare to you. If they rank higher than you beg for a link exchange. Stay on
them; call them if you have to! Email weekly. If they are about the same exchanging
links will be ok but concentrate on the higher ones first! Lower than you put them on
the back burner. This is like MLM recruiting. Sign up one hot distributor (link) a week
and over a year you'll be up in the ranking.
Check Your Link Popularity: http://www.addpro.com/popularity.htm
There you have the basics of linking.
www.webpilotexplorer.com is someone I trust she charges $100 setup (when you use
the submission service below) and $20 a page to put you in her link directories she has
on multiple MLM sites. See search engine placement below. No scams or pyramidy
MLMs.

5 Search Engines Submission
Submitting your website to searchengines is critical. Don't do it and they may get
around to seeing you a year or two from now. You may make dramatic changes to your website and be a star website for content and links, but if you are not seen you are
lost.
On the other hand submitting too often is a disaster. Do it weekly on Google and they
will think you are a pest and put you in the trash can. Meantime Alltheweb.com
likes it weekly. You have to use discretion and get the "lay of the searchengine land".
Don't get ripped off. I see ads; "we submit your site to searchengines day for only $250
a month!" Pardon me they are ripping you off and putting your website in the dumper. If
anyone says, "Guaranteed Placement" run! Some only submit your home page, this is
a fraud. Every page in your website has to be submitted.
LIST OF LOW COST SUBMITTERS
www.webpilotexplorer.com
is someone I trust she charges $100 for setup (putting each page in and writing the page description) for a website up to 15 pages. For a $100 a
month she baby sits the timing for which searchengine. She has two problems: She is
too honest and worries about doing a good job. Nice problems for you to have right?
No scams or pyramidy MLMs.

6 Paid Search Engines
This is certainly one way to get traffic to your website. Overture used to be the king of pay per click (you are charged when people click on your link to go to your site). It is honest, but with the cost of Overture and Google going out of sight and the number of other searchengines they reach being diminished make sure you test, test and test some more. 7 Secret Tips and Tricks
These tips are some things we are experimenting with that we think may or will help
your rankings. There are 2 AM conference calls among us searchengine nuts pondering their next move and new things to do for better ranking for our clients.
Tip: When you do a URL the search engine (and Unix what the Internet is built on)
reads a dash – as a space. We think at this time that www.mlm-consultant.com
will get a few more points from the searchengines than www.mlmconsultant.com. Not a big
kick but every little bit helps.
Tip – Remember word density? The searchengines read from the top down (many
times just the top half) so it if you concentrate on word relevancy matches in the first
half of the page it doesn't hurt! Once again don't overdo it!
Tip – Experts babble on about meta tags that really don't have high impact anymore.
Meta tags alone do not give you a high ranking in the search engines listings. What you need is to
combine your meta tags, titles and your content. You can have the best of keywords in your tags but you
will probably not get a top listing as long as they are not present on your page.
Tip -- Don't forget to use your keywords if possible in your ALT tags when using images!! Not too many
because that can also count as spam
TIP -- Insiders Free trick -- http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/
- you can sign up for an account without paying money. Part of your account is a search for how often a
term or word is searched for. Copy them down if they are high and cross check on Google (top right) for
number of potential competitor websites. The goldmine for you is when you find a high search term and
not a lot of relevant websites in Google.
Tip – Putting a missing page to work. First go to AltaVista.com. In the search box
type "host: your domain" (replacing your domain with whatever your domain is, such as
"host:mlmconsultant.com. What you get on the screen is every file that AltaVista has in
its index and thinks is active. Look at the links on the screen. Put your cursor over the
clickable link -- but don't click. Look down at the bottom of your browser to see the
filename of your URL. Is the page still in existence? If not quickly create a new page
with exactly the same filename as the one AltaVista thinks is still on your site, then put it
on your server ASAP.
Tip – Double using the trick above. Ask friends if you check them?? for moved pages
and find a missing page (which hurts them in the searchengines) can you give them a
page of good content with links back to your site. Some folks have done this with
strangers too! Win-win for all!
Tip -- Join a banner exchange program, not to be confused with FFA's (FREE FOR ALL's)
Tip: With new sites, use a "unique" word in all your pages so you can search for this word in the engines
and a get a list of all your web pages. It's a quickie to see if all your pages were indexed. You can use it
again when you make major changes to your site to if the engines have your latest site version.
