The Internet and web are not the same thing. The internet is made up the "pipelines" of the Internet that includes the software coding and lines of electronic distribution for transmittal of information. This started with Arpanet that Rod Cook first became involved with in 1974.

The World Wide Web is the software coding (HTML being the most common) that lets you see pictures and navigate easily on the web. It came into popular use in 1993. It operates (rides) on the Internet. Another example: your email travels on the Internet internet with connections to Web pictures :>).
